LIST OF CONTENTS

NAUSEA RELIEF AIDS

Sea Bands

Cloth-elastic-wrist-band with a bead-like hard object embedded in the bracelet. Applies pressure to the Nei Kuan acupressure point soothing/preventing nausea and vomiting.

Ginger Chews

A yummy (despite chemo taste changes) nausea soothing and preventing treat. Everybody recommends these tasty vibrant treats. GF, V, Non GMO.

European Organic Peppermint Tea

Hot and comforting, peppermint is widely used for nausea management throughout the ages. It is known for soothing upset stomachs and vomiting. Also said to cool the body from the inside-out. We chose Buddha Teas for their non-bleached bags, Organic teas and no additives.

Oatmeal

This is a simple meal when regular food is too difficult. We included these non-flavored oatmeal packets in our backup kits as a timely reprieve should cooking, taste change, scents, mouth sores or digestion become difficult. Oatmeal is low scent, easy to prepare, simple to digest and a source of great nutrition.

Toiletries: Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Soap.

Many cancer and chemo patients develop extreme sensitivities to product additives, scents, perfumes, cooking smells and flower/plant aromas. We included these travel-sized tools in our packages as a timely reprieve should scent sensitivity flare up.

Non-Metal Utensils

Many chemo patients complain of a metallic/chemical taste that can ruin flavors and appetite. The term is 'Metal-mouth'. The aftercare kit includes a set of re-usable non-metal cutlery that are easy to wash, which helps reduce plastic waste from disposable cutlery.

Night Light

Nausea can hit at night and there is not much time to rush to the bathroom and some nights sleeping is difficult. This LED turns off when ambient light is strong and turns on when the room is dark. A safe, simple but effective way of lighting a path in the dark when you don't want to wake up family.

REST BETTER

Ear Plugs

Silence the world around you and rest at any-time/any-where during the day with these high-quality ear plugs. We chose the 3M earplugs because of the quality of the foam, the ability to adapt to ear size and string. These are used in industrial settings but are very comfortable.

Eye Mask

Recovering well requires sleep and rest. Block the light and get some much needed rest with this comfortable eye mask, day or night.

Chamomile Organic Tea

From natural sleeping aid to calming nerves and stomach, it has been used for centuries. Also recommended to be used as a mouth rinse which helps relieve mouth sores. Organic and the bags are unbleached.

Bath Salts

Soothe your irritated skin, calm the nerves and ready yourself for a good nights rest with these bath salts. Epsom salts have been used for treating aches and pains for generations.

ORAL CARE

PUR Xylitol Peppermints

The Benefits of Xylitol are many. The benefits of peppermint, an added bonus. Where to start... Xylitol is a natural sugar-alcohol (diabetics can have these mints!). This prevents oral bacteria from being able to digest it which starves and kills off the bacteria. This brings the pH (the acidity level) of the mouth to a more neutral environment helping to prevent cavities (which are caused by acidity). Xylitol also increases saliva flow which helps with dry-mouth and exposes the teeth to healing minerals helping the mouth to naturally prevent and re-calcify current potential cavities. You will notice that your teeth feel smoother after enjoying a mint. Xylitol is recommended by Hygienists and Dentists. Peppermint, on the other hand, naturally slows the digestion down which soothes the stomach when upset, calms nausea and cools the body internally.

Floss Picks

We chose floss picks instead of floss string for hygienic reasons and for ease of use. The mouth exaggerates its current health state while going through chemo treatments and radiation. Difficulties in the mouth are a heavy strain on the already taxed immune system.

Toothettes

Chemo and radiation can affect oral tissues, causing sensitivity, mouth sores and jawbone infections which can all affect eating. Toothettes are a softer/gentler alternative to a toothbrush, helping to brush the teeth/gums when strong sensitivities arise.

RE-HYDRATION

Lotion: Unscented

It took a while to find a basic, great value cream that absorbs well, is not oily feeling, lasts on the skin and does not trigger nausea due to scent-sensitivity. The TRUE line is sold by a fellow Canadian, Calgary based company that we are happy to work with.

Cuticle Oil

Nails and cuticles can be severely damaged by chemo treatments. Keep your nails stronger and healthier with this portable cuticle oil.

Lip Balm

Low scent, heavy duty lip balm. Does a great job not feeling oily and keeping lips hydrated.

Flexible Straws

Staying hydrated by sipping on water is extremely important during the recovery from chemo treatments. Flexible straws are a convenient way to encourage sipping when you have difficulty moving. We prefer reusable versions but those require special cleaning process (which is risky when the immune system is compromised).

ENTERTAINMENT - DISTRACTION

Activity Puzzle Book

A simple and challenging way to keep the mind engaged. Helps to exercise chemo brain. Over 240 puzzles per book. A good distraction to chase the stress away.

Extension Cord

When mobility is an issue for various reasons like energy loss, nausea or pain, sometimes the electric things you want to use are just too far from the plug in the wall. Another support tool to help keep in touch with loved-ones for that needed support and facilitate distraction.

1.2M , 4FT cord with 3 plugs.

COMFORTS

Magic Scarf/Cap

A cozy soft head covering helps prevent some of the heat release and keeps you warmer. Patients recommended this type of cap for its soft flexibility during hair changes and its versatility in that it can be used as a neck-warmer, a bandana, a full cap and other possibilities.

Instructions on the many ways to use the scarf are in each kit.

PREVENTING INFECTION

Face Masks

Chemo compromises the immune system making it more difficult to fend off viruses and bacterial infections. It is very important to have friends and family visit and spend time to support the chemo patient to raise spirits. Wearing masks is a safe way to spend more time together.
